26 Feb The Richmond Way

On Saturday 15th February, I donned a black tie for Richmond FC’s very first Richmond Ball. As a guest of my table hosts, chartered accountants Felton Pumphrey, it was great to get away from the foul February weather and support Richmond FC in the warmer and more elcoming surroundings of the Richmond Hill Hotel.  Around 200 people, dressed in their finest, enjoyed an evening of fine food, wine, entertainment and dance in support of one the oldest rugby clubs in the UK.

MessageBase has been a proud sponsor of Richmond Football Club for the past three years.  ‘The Richmond Way’ is the Club’s philosophy and promotes a culture of ambition and sporting excellence within a community setting.  There are plenty of opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in the sport –  from the squads of Senior Men and Women to Students, Youth, Minis and the “Heavies’ (veterans).

Richmond is currently in the lower half of National League One with the team frequently appearing against teams where players are paid for match appearances. As a community club, Richmond FC players do not receive an income from rugby but do receive excellent support in the form of professional coaching, health care and performance related benefits.

Richmond is a Club steeped in history, but today, one of its most remarkable features is its Youth sector. There are more than 600 boys and girls playing within the Youth and Mini teams and with a well organised development infrastructure, this means Richmond, no doubt, has a fantastic future ahead.
